Product Specifications
In this section we provide specifications on the products that we implement and feel proud to use on a global scale. OmniGlobe’s network architecture is based on widely-available hardware components used in combination with our own developed network management software solutions. Below is an overview of the key elements of our solution:
OmniLink
A community’s centrally located satellite terminal delivering metered bandwidth over a satellite link based on the DVB-RCS international standard for two-way satellite access.
OmniLink Bandwidth
Our solution delivers a high speed bandwidth connection that can grow as your subscriber demand grows. This allows us to keep costs down, while offering a reliable service. Each subscriber can be offered a high speed Internet connection. Our satellite bandwidth pipe is capable of starting small, and growing very large, e.g. as demand grows, the forward link (from the OmniCenter gateway towards the community) is capable of transporting from 1 Mbps up to 45 Mbps of Internet data and is capable of providing Quality of Service prioritization based on need (e.g. for Voice over IP traffic). The return link (from the OmniLink community towards the OmniCenter gateway) is capable of transporting from 256 kbps up to 8 Mbps of IP data.
OmniCell
Wireless access point and network based on WiMAX or pre-WiMAX (IEEE 802.16 standard) technology, interfaced to the OmniLink satellite-based traffic backhaul. End users connect to the access point using small, unobtrusive antennas and customer premise equipment (CPE) modems located up to 30 km away. Typical coverage is over an area of 20 km radius.
OmniCenter NOC
A Network Operations Center (NOC) including a subscriber management system, 24hour/7day/365 day-a-year monitoring system, bandwidth provisioning and microwave frequency satellite gateways with Internet peering points. The gateways are capable of handling the aggregate traffic from potentially hundreds of sites nation-wide.
OmniCenter Local
A local Network Management server enables both OmniGlobe and the local community’s technician to manage the wireless network. Provides automated alarms and bandwidth monitoring to maintain a highly reliable connection, with the added flexibility to define different user groups to effectively share bandwidth and locally control the Quality of Service.
For larger communities ‘OmniCenter Local’ includes additionally a Performance Enhancing Protocol combined with Bandwidth Optimization Subsystem providing proprietary pushing, caching and multicasting software to enhance the end-user experience thereby avoiding the latency and delays typically associated with satellite-based solutions while reducing the satellite bandwidth cost.
